Looking across the River Severn from The Ships’ Graveyard at Purton, Gloucestershire. A short drive from Bristol, the Graveyard is the final resting place of barges and vessels intentionally beached between 1909 and 1965 to help combat erosion of the river bank.
In the sand in the distance (and only visible a low tide) is the rusting hull of the Wastdale H, one of two barges which collided with the old Severn Railway Bridge in October 1960, resulting in the decision to dismantle the bridge.
